Yes, Michelle, HAM hocks is pig. LOL Pork is my favorite meat. And I haven't dropped yet so I guess I'll just keep eating it. :)

Caroline, thank you for your veggie salad recipe. I'll add a veggie category to the discussions and put it in there.

Frog's legs are OK. I prefer gator tail. YUM!

This is a good veggie salad and really easy to make...

1 head of califlower chopped into tiny pieces
2 large gala apples Chopped
1/2 of a Vadilla or sweet onion chopped

Mix all together with poppy seed dressing (I just use the store bought) and you have a really yummy salad. I made it for my Mom and neice one day and they wanted me to make it for the next week about everyday....LOL

I LOVE frogs legs! I became addicted to them when I lived in Georgia! I miss my yummy frogs legs & boiled peanuts! I LOVE all veggies, especially greens!

oh lawd hamhocks??? isn't that a pig? I wouldn't be caught eating anything pork. I used to eat bacon a long time ago...until I found out about the parasits....ok another topic for another group !

you are making me hungry because I had black eyed peas and rice this weekend at a BBQ and now I'm kind of thinking I want more! however, there's a place in NYC called the Shake Shack. Ever heard of it? AMAZING burgers and fries. It's a little pricey but it's a good American treat!

That's funny cuz I am a Yankee, born and raised in MA and I LOVE collards and yams and black-eyed peas.........Just can't find a lot of different veggies up north, not like down here. But then there is a lot up north that you can't find down here, like all the ethnic foods. Everything here is the same. Beans, hamhocks, cornbread....BORING!!! :)

I steam mine also...best that way to keep the nutrients!

my grandmother says I'm not black because I don't like other vegetables like collard greens and yams LOL. I am a very northern eater so to speak. I never did take very well to traditional southern food

My husband too! He drowns his broccoli in cheese all the time. i don't like many vegetables but I eat the few that do like faithfully (broccoli, spinache, green beans, corn - well it's a starch but still!)

That sounds yummy! I love broccoli, too. My husband doesn't much care for it unless it's drowning in cheese sauce. Thanks for adding this. I'm gonna copy and paste it into the "Main Dish" discussion so it'll be with the rest of them.

Here's a recipe for a healthy (broccoli is my favorite!) Broccoli and Walnut Stir Fry:

Recipe serves 4:

Ingredients:

2 chopped onions
2 chopped carrots
2 tbsp olive oil
2 tbsp walnuts
1 cup of vegetable broth
1 cup sliced shitake mushrooms (optional for me - I don't eat mushrooms)
1 head of coarsely chopped broccoli
1 tbsp of cornstarch dissolved in 2 tablespoons cold water
3 tbsp soy sauce
Salt and pepper to taste

Optional garnish with sesame seeds

Directions:

Heat oil in a wok and sauté carrots and onions until almost tender. Add broccoli and walnuts and stir. Add 1 cup of broth and cook until vegetables are tender. To thicken the sauce, add the dissolved cornstarch. Stir briefly then add soy sauce. Salt and pepper to your taste.

Sprinkle with sesame seed and serve with whole-grain noodles
